Our classes are taught by tenure-line faculty, lecturers, part-time instructors, and TAs. Here you'll find information about applying to be a TA or Lecturer. Faculty positions, if any are open, can be found on the Human Resources website.

Note: We are now accepting new applications for Fall 2009. In spring 2008 we converted to whole-year scheduling for our lecturers, and so we ask those applying as lecturers to please give us scheduling and class preferences for the WHOLE YEAR. TAs are still scheduled one semester at a time.

The deadline for submission of all materials is April 15, 2009.

Who may apply?

Because of leaner campus budgets, we are currently only hiring lecturers with entitlement and TAs. We are NOT hiring un-entitled or new lecturers at this time.

We are accepting TA applications from any English MA student in good academic standing who has passed 5894, but students who have not taught more than two terms will have priority in hiring.

Teaching Composition

While we are pleased to enjoy very low turnover among our instructors and TAs, we do need to hire new people periodically. Openings are most likely in the fall term when we tend to teach more sections. If you are interested in applying to teach during the fall, you should submit your online application and supporting materials during the prior spring. We make staffing decisions in April for the subsequent fall. Of course you can submit materials at any time; please specify which semester interest you and whether you'd like us to keep your application active for the next hiring period (an academic year).

Applications Must Include:

New Applications * The online application, either for Lecturers or for TAs.

Returning TAs and Lecturers:

If you have taught for us in the semester before the one for which you are applying,* you should submit an abbreviated application. Simply resubmit the online application form, and in the case of graduate students, send us a current un-official transcript. While this is a simpler process than a first-time application, please treat it as seriously.

*For example, if you teach in a Spring term and then apply for Fall, or teach in the Fall or Winter term, and apply for Spring.

Other Job Opportunities

The Writing Center is often looking for tutors and offers extensive training for their tutors, that is quite valuable for anyone interested in teaching writing. For more information, visit the Writing Center Website or contact the director, Paula Barrington-Schmidt.
